Our Inspiration
Sustainer Home Care, Inc. was founded by Brandi Robison. This is her personal story.
Caring for those in need was always a large part of my life. When I was in high school I began caring for both my grandmother and grandfather. I helped with bathing, feeding, dressing, and transporting. When I was nineteen years old I got the call that my mother who was only fifty-seven years old at the time had had a massive stroke. When she finally moved out of ICU she could not hold up her head, had lost the use of her left arm, and her left leg was partially paralyzed.
She stayed in rehab for six months and then came home. Once home she still could not walk.
I came home from the university I was attending to help my mother and attended a local community college until my mom and dad could cope without me. She never got the use of her arm or partially paralyzed leg back but she did learn to walk again. She still required assistance in dressing and other tasks. We were blessed to have her another twenty-two years.
Six months after my mom passed, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with ALS. ALS is a devastating disease. We watched her go from a healthy seventy-year old woman to a quadriplegic in one short year. She needed assistance bathing, eating, toileting, and transporting. We also had to move her arms and legs frequently to help her relieve pain.
I have a bachelor of science in Sociology. My training is in the school of hard knocks in caregiving. It was a natural transition to move from caregiving for family members to caregiving for people we treat like family.
I am able to combine my love of people with my desire to serve in one great job that I feel like I was created and prepared to do. Without a doubt, this is my calling. I really believed I would be serving seniors. I was not prepared for the compassion I would feel for the family members that diligently, selflessly and lovingly care for their family members. Providing respite care for them is very rewarding.
I also was not prepared for the great relationships I have built with Sustainer’s amazing caregivers.
